NEW CUSTOMS PROCEDURES AS OF JANUARY 1, 2021

As a result of Brexit, additional customs formalities will be introduced at Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals (RST) as of January 1, 2021. In order to prevent congestion and delays on and surrounding the Rotterdam City Terminal gate and at the RST driver-, barge- and rail desk, our entry procedures will change as of January 1, 2021.

Important! The new entry procedures at RST are not only applicable for Brexit related cargo but for all containers accompanied by either an import or export declaration. RST procedures will therefore change for both UK and all other non-EU ports of destination including EVA ports.

NEW ENTRY PROCEDURES IN A ROW

  1. Digital pre-notification of your customs document to our terminal via Portbase:
    • For import cargo: a correct import declaration must be digitally pre-notified to our terminal via the Portbase service Notification Import Documentation for all intermodal modalities and connections.
    • For export cargo: a correct export declaration must be digitally pre-notified to our terminal via the Portbase service Notification Export Documentation for all intermodal modalities and connections.
  2. Check Portbase before you leave for RST and the Rotterdam City Terminal gate

Only correctly pre-notified cargo may enter and leave the terminal. Prior to departure, you therefore check in Portbase whether the customs document has been correctly pre-notified to our terminal. You (or your transport planner) can digitally verify this via the Portbase services Import Status and Track & Trace Export. Are all check marks green? Only then will you leave for our terminal.

Important! As a haulier and barge operator, you also can easily check the status of the required customs documents for your barge and truck visits via the Portbase service Hinterland Container Notification

Be prepared: No Document, No Transport!
If the customs documents are not correctly pre-notified via Portbase, your cargo will not be accepted and not be handled at our terminal as of January 1, 2021. Drivers will be escorted to the exit of the Rotterdam City Terminal gate and will be obliged to find a parking area outside of the City terminal premises. In a public parking area, you can complete the customs formalities and/or complete the pre-notification via Portbase.
